What is Catholic Weight Loss?

You have probably tried the diets. Maybe more than a few of them. You know what macros are. You have counted points, tracked calories, started over on Monday more times than you can count. And you are tired — not just of dieting, but of the whole exhausting cycle of trying and failing and wondering what is wrong with you.


Here is what I want to tell you: nothing is wrong with you. The approach is the problem. And Catholic weight loss is a different approach.


What Catholic Weight Loss Actually Means - Catholic weight loss is not a diet with a cross on the label. It is not substituting a Bible verse for a meal plan and calling it faith-based. It is something much more serious and much more beautiful than that.


It is the recognition that you are not just a body to be managed. You are a body and a soul, made in the image and likeness of God, and any approach to health that ignores the spiritual dimension of who you are will eventually fail — because it is only addressing half the problem. The women I work with have tried secular programs and found them hollow. They work for a while. But without a foundation rooted in something deeper than willpower or aesthetic goals, the habits don't hold. Life gets hard. The motivation disappears. And the old patterns rush back in.


Catholic weight loss builds a different kind of foundation. One rooted in virtue, in prayer, in the wisdom of the saints who struggled with their own bodies and appetites and came out the other side transformed — not just physically, but in their whole identity.


**The Three Things That Actually Work**

After coaching women since the mid-1990s, I can tell you the three things that produce lasting results for Catholic women over 50:

*Progressive strength training.* Not cardio. Not walking on a treadmill for an hour. Lifting weights — or resistance bands, or your own bodyweight — two to three times per week. This is the single most important thing a woman over 50 can do for her weight, her bone density, her metabolism, and her long-term health. The research is unambiguous. We do not skip this.

High-protein*, whole-food nutrition. Your body needs 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of your ideal body weight every single day — especially after menopause, when muscle loss accelerates dramatically. Most women are getting half that. We fix this first.

*Virtue formation and the Pause & Pivot.* This is the piece that secular programs skip entirely — and it is the piece that makes everything else stick. Learning to pause before the old habitual reach and pivot toward prayer instead of the pantry is a skill. It takes practice. And it works in ways that willpower alone never will.


Saint Joan of Arc (the patron saint of my program) said "I am not afraid, I was born to do this" and I believe that about me, this program and I believe that about you. You were not born to start over every January. You were born for strength — physical and spiritual — and the two are not as separate as the wellness industry would have you believe.
